Wed & Thu 3 & 4 Jan.: "Into Great Silence" - monastry documentary film, 2:45pm and 6pm

Compared with our current life styles and our busy and loud environment, this movie catapults the viewer straight into the extreme opposite. Difficult to stand for some (1 out of 5 left the movie while we were watching).

Fri 26th Jan. 2007: Faith & the Environment - The Akhashi Project, with Shilpa Shah, 7:45 for 8pm

The Cambridge Inter-Faith Group (www.cam.net.uk/home/interfaith) invites you for a presentation:
What does Climate Change mean for me?
Why do we care about climate change and what can we do about it?

Do faith groups have a responsibility to care for the environment?
We hear so much about climate change, in the newspapers, on the TV and radio, at school and even in the cinema. We hear about politicians, about businesses and about scientists. But what does it mean for us as individuals, as families, as communities and as faith groups? The protection of the planet is something taught by all faiths; the stewardship of Christians, the vice-regency of Muslims, the respect for the Shakti of Mother Earth of Hindus, the respect of all living beings of Jains, the ideas of harmony and balance of Buddhists, the oneness approach of Baha'is, ......... to name but a few.

What is climate change, exactly? Why should we care about it? What can we learn from these different faith perspectives on one of the greatest challenges that faces us all today? And how can we harness this knowledge and link it with the 'mainstream green' debate to help ourselves and others work together to challenge climate change- together? Come and discuss this and other questions.
Followed by refreshments. No cost - donations for room hire are welcome

Fri 23 Feb: Inter-Faith Discussion Faith & “Miracles”, 19:45 for 8pm-9:45pm

The Cambridge Inter-Faith Group (www.cam.net.uk/home/interfaith) invites you to a discussion evening:
According to The Encyclopedia of Religion (1987), miracles are “events, actions and states taken to be so unusual, extraordinary, and supernatural that the normal level of human consciousness finds them hard to accept rationally.” Most (perhaps all?) faith traditions include examples of miracles. Sometimes reports of miracles serve to strengthen faith. On the other hand, people with a materialistic view may be reluctant to believe in miracles at all. People who are ready to believe in miracles may believe simply that “God” intervened. Others may believe that spiritual understanding can override material “law” on a reliable basis.
The discussion will be introduced by David Wilman, who had a career in Agricultural Science, is a student of Christian Science, and is currently taking a Masters course which considers Eastern and Western perspectives on the body.
Free of charge - donations are welcome

Fri 30th March 07: EMPOWRING THE LORD'S PRAYER 6:30 to 10:00pm

Many students of Eastern traditions are surprised to find that recitation of the Lord’s Prayer brings in an energy every bit as powerful as the energies brought in by the mantras of those traditions. Jesus was heir to the Kabbalistic tradition of Jewish mysticism and the energy brought in by the Lord’s Prayer is a beautiful variation of a classic Kabbalistic energy. It is not necessary for anyone to take this course in order to bring in the energy, however receiving the initiation multiplies the power of the energy manyfold (just as receiving the initiation for an Eastern mantra makes it "jagrata" or "awakened" and increases its power manyfold). Jesus gave this same initiation to his twelve disciples. It brings in an energy which opens the heart and brings one closer to God.
Everyone is welcome to this Initiation Workshop. The price is £50. Please call 01223 833037 to register.
Venue: Friends Meeting House 91 Hartington Grove, William Penn Room, Cambridge, CB1 7UB - Free parking available.

Some peace dances could be danced as part songs or rounds - but often there are not enough people for 2 or more circles. This afternoon we'll learn & sing simple harmony chants, honouring various religious traditions (similar to Nickomo's "Harmonic Temple"). An uplifting experience...
The leader, Ralph, is teaching Taizé harmony chanting for many years. He loves creating a sacred atmosphere, combined with a good sense of humour. Read more

Thu Wed 4 April: 4th open networking meeting for Cambridge workshop / events organisers, 7:30pm

I invite all people who are currently involved in organising events / workshops (especially those with a spiritual or healing touch) for an informal meeting to exchange information, share inspiration, consider co-operation - and get to know each other.
Suggested focus tonight: Cambridge needs a spiritual/healing/eco/alternative info paper/magazin/journal!
It's many years, since the last edition of Greenwave Magazine appeared (www.greenwave.connectfree.co.uk). The "LightNetwork" paper from around 2005 did not take off. Currently there are some attempts: a Reiki paper & Cambridge Action Network paper.
I strongly feel, we organisers would benefit from a printed publication (maybe bi-monthly) - are we ready? Or is there anyone out there who might like to do some real print networking?
If you like to be e-invited to future "[Organisers]" meetings, you can join our open e-list: mail to
Ralph
We may also talk about: You are encouraged to leave a donation for the venue.

Fri 27th April: GNOSTIC TRINITY AND GOSPEL - talk by Rajinder Nijjhar, Oxford, with discussion, 7:45 for 8pm

The Cambridge Inter-Faith Group (www.cam.net.uk/home/interfaith) invites all interested. Here is what Chaudhry Rajinder Nijjhar writes - be ready for mind stretching surprises tonight:
Gnostic is derived from Gnosis, spiritual knowledge. Spiritual knowledge demands upon the conceptual power of the person and such persons are rare to come across. Most people read Books and they learn some thing but not complete.
A true Gnostic learns spiritual things through intuition and he uses logical reasoning to dig out the Treasures of God buried in the Field of Knowledge.
Gnostics are "seekers" of religious knowledge and we take no one for his word. We believe each individual receives "His Word" through "grace of God". Our Discussions are open minded and friendly. Meetings are open to all and they are "FREE". For a taste of Gnosticism, visit my web site: www.nijjhar.freeserve.co.uk/sikhism.htm
In 1993, I published my first Book entitled "FIRST GNOSTIC PRINCIPLES OF ONE GOD ONE FAITH" and last year one in Punjabi on Christianity/Sikhism. In fact Sikhism is continuation of Christianity and I can explain this in details. Satguru (Christ) Nanak Dev Ji was the Second coming of Christ.
In Gnosticism, we explain things from the very first basic principles that need not impose your views upon others.
Gospel is not for every body but for those who are pre-destined and such people are independent thinkers or solitary.

Free of charge - donations are welcome

Sat 18 Aug: Veggie Lunch & FREE taster of "Vedic Maths", 12 noon - 2pm

(Vedic Maths starts at 1p.m) - *Lunch: £3-50 adults, less for children
Book lunch by Fri 17 Aug: or ring: 07834-600 450
Vedic Maths breathed life into numbers and the decimal system at its best: the late Jagadguru Swami Sri Bharati Krsna Tirthaji Maharaja's priceless gift to humankind. (Jagadguru is world guru).
Vedic Maths has 16 sutras with some sub-sutras.
Example: 88 X 98 = 8624
The sutra VERTICALLY AND CROSSWISE can give the answer without using pen and paper. As the numbers to multiply are both near 100:
88 - 12 (88 is 12 below the base 100, 98 is 02 below 100)
X 98 - 02
The 86 in the answer comes from subtracting crosswise: 88 - 02 = 86 (or 98 - 12 = 86: it is the same-different). And the 24 in the answer is just 12 x 02: multiplying vertically.
So, 88 x 98 = 8624: Vedic maths is a wonder, unforgettable Read more about Vedic Maths

Unlike prettiness or perfection, inner beauty does not attract undesirable attention. Quite the opposite in fact! - Inner beauty, depth and sparkle attract "more of the same" i.e. people and experiences that create an uplifting spiral of peace and joy in our life...

Fri 12 Oct: "Georgian Song Workshop" led by Georgian Ethnomusicologist Joseph Jordania, 7:45pm-10pm

Georgian Choral singing is one of the wonders of the world's folk polyphonic traditions. It is a rich and varied singing tradition stretching back to the pre-christian era.
This workshop will give participants the experience of creating the wonderful resonant harmonies of Georgian song with a leading Georgian ethnomusicologist who has taught workshops in the UK and Australia as well as speaking at conferences in many parts of the world. Until his relocation to Melbourne, Australia, Joseph was teaching in the Tbilisi conservatoire, Georgia. He is a warm and generous teacher who leads a community choir in Melbourne and is highly skilled in working with people at all levels of vocal experience. We are delighted to host one of his few singing workshops on his visit to the UK this autumn.
During the workshop, we will have the opportunity to sing several Georgian songs. Joseph welcomes those less confident about their singing as well as more experienced singers. The ability to read sheet music is helpful as sheet music will be used - but it is not essential. Organised by Talking in Tune Community Music. Cost £10, £8 concessions

Sun 14 Oct: SOUL AND SELF - discussion, 3.30 p.m.

Should Soul be thought of as a synonym for God? If so, should we think of one Soul, rather than billions of souls? Should man be regarded as spiritual, reflecting the one Soul, God, or as material, with each person having a mind and soul of his or her own? Is our true selfhood spiritual or material? Does our view of this affect our health and well-being?
Bring your views on soul and self or come along to listen to others to this open, public discussion meeting.
